Charlie Jeffery has been named the University of Southampton鈥檚 next vice-chancellor.

Jeffery, who has led the University of York since 2019, will take up his new role at the south-coast university in October.

The move follows the departure of Southampton鈥檚 vice-chancellor Mark E. Smith, who announced in December聽that he had been appointed a pro vice-chancellor at the University of Oxford.

Jeffery, who currently chairs the N8 Partnership of northern research-intensive universities and Yorkshire Universities, said he was 鈥渉onoured to be joining the University of Southampton at such an exciting moment鈥.
