Francisk Skorina Gomel State University can trace its origins back to 1930 with the Gomel Institute. It gained university status in 1934 offering four-year training across a range of disciplines. 
The university offers a wide range of courses across its 11 faculties, which include: biology, geology and geography, history and intercultural communications, foreign languages, mathematics and programming technologies, psychology and pedagogy, physics and information technology, physical culture, philology, economics, and law. 
The university has two research institutes: The Institute of History and Culture of the East Slavic peoples, and the Physico-Chemical Institute. Across campus, there are 14 research laboratories. 
Francisk Skorina Gomel State University has close partnerships with universities across the world in countries including Lithuania, China, Finland and Switzerland. Through its partnerships, it offers student exchanges, research work and training, and produces published research.

Role Overview

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in its research pursuits. Our research staff have the opportunity to develop industry-relevant applied research capabilities while contributing to impactful projects that address real-world operational needs.

We are seeking a Research Engineer to join an applied research project focused on the development of an embodied AI robotic system for urban infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The project involves the design, integration, and validation of robotic mechanisms, sensing systems, and automated workflows for outdoor infrastructure maintenance applications.The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team and industry partners to investigate, prototype, test, and implement practical robotic solutions that can operate in real-world environments and support more efficient, safe, and scalable infrastructure maintenance.

Key Responsibilities


	Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules.
	Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks.
	Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation.
	Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability.
	Build, assemble, and commission mechanical prototypes and experimental robotic systems.
	Conduct laboratory and field testing, analyse results, troubleshoot issues, and implement design improvements through iterative development.
	Source and evaluate commercial components, and work with vendors, fabricators, and contractors to support fabrication and assembly.
	Support field deployments and technology demonstrations with industry partners.
	Prepare technical reports, design documentation, test reports, risk assessments, and project deliverables.
	To liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.
	Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.


Requirements


	Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
	Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and system integration.
	Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and engineering documentation.
	Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis.
	Experience working with robotic systems, sensors, actuators, or mechatronic systems is advantageous.
	Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
	Willingness to conduct laboratory and field testing when required.

Description

The New York University Abu Dhabi Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work in any of the lab research areas, to be involved in the development of open source tools and resources, and to work on publications related to their work. CAMeL's mission is research and education in artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. The main lab research areas are Arabic natural language processing (orthography normalization, grammatical error correction, morphology tagging, syntax parsing, readability assessment), machine translation, and text analytics. Since its establishment in 2014, the CAMeL Lab has produced over 200 publications and 20 language resources and tools. The lab website is http://www.camel-lab.com/. The position will target the rank of Post-Doctoral Associate (within less than 5 years of experience post receiving their PhD). A strong preference is for individuals with (a) computer science or computer engineering degrees with previous experience in natural language processing; or computational linguistics/language technologies degrees; (b) strong programming skills and machine learning experience; and (c) a research publication record appropriate for the hiring rank. Knowledge of Arabic language is preferred, but not required. Previous work on Arabic NLP is preferred but not required.

About the Role

The Senior Research Dissemination Fellow will support our ongoing work by identifying and optimising the research and dissemination outputs of LifeLab. You will be required to work proactively across the team to understand the range and depth of work undertaken in LifeLab and wider Specialist Centre for Public Health and to prepare quality research outputs for dissemination. 

You will have knowledge and experience of research within the public health sector, and to be able to work collaboratively to project delivery dates. You will also be an excellent communicator and able to build relationships both internally and externally.

This post is offered on a fixed term (24 months) basis in the School of Healthcare Enterprise & Innovation. As a school we operate hybrid working with an expected minimum of 20% in office. This role is available as a fractional or full-time post.
