Russian University of Transport (MIIT)

Russian University of Transport (MIIT) was created to address a national shortage of the engineers needed for the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway.
It still occupies the Bakhmetyerskaya Street premises which were constructed for it between 1897 and 1898. There is also a branch office at Sochi, on the Black Sea.
It has grown from its roots as a small specialist engineering school particularly since attaining full university status in 1993. It now offers 70 majors.
All international students are offered university accommodation.
Courses are spread across nine institutes – railway engineering, transport, water transport, basic training, the high school of engineering, transport planning, civil aviation, road management and advance engineering – along with colleges of law, medicine, transport, water transport and international transport.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As university assistant and doctoral student, you work in the Spatial Sustainability and Digitalization Transformation Hub (SSDT Hub) led by Yvonne Franz who is also the director of study program at the department. The SSDT Hub conducts research on the nexus of spatial analysis and sustainability and digitalization transformation. It aims to advance academic knowledge and debates on spatial thinking and a critical understanding of spatialized social transformation processes. The SSDT Hub consists of all working groups at the Department of Geography and Regional Research and is excellently embedded in the international network of researchers and practitioners. As doctoral student, you will contribute to addressing relevant socio-spatial processes which include research on housing market transitions, caring communities as well as social innovation in neighborhood development. From a methodological perspective, you strive for comparative analyses focusing on urban environments. It is particularly important to us that every employee is highly motivated, enjoys being part of a team, and is open to challenges.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	While your primary task will be in research, your work will also include teaching, administrative tasks and supporting the SSDT Hub in research-led as well as science-to-public activities.
	Development and completion of a dissertation on urban transformation processes from a comparative perspective. An interest in housing market transitions, caring communities as well as social innovation in neighbourhood development is an asset.
	Willingness to conduct fieldwork outside of Vienna.
	Participation in the preparation of research proposals and acquisition of third-party funding.
	Participation in scientific studies, publication projects, and presentations.
	Integration into the SSDT Hub and contribution to research and teaching group activities.
	Supervision of students and holding classes in accordance with wage agreement regulations.
	You will be part of the VISESS Doctoral School and we expect you to complete your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.


This is part of your personality:


	Passion for urban studies related topics and strong interest in developing innovative methodologies.
	You hold a master’s degree or diploma (or equivalent) in Geography (or a related and relevant discipline) with at least distinction.
	A background in urban geography, urban studies, urban sociology or political science is an asset.
	Very good knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative social science research methods. Experience in research on Vienna is an asset.
	Profound skills in moderation and didactics.
	You are self-motivated, eager to grow, and capable of working both independently and in international team environments.
	You are able to manage project activities, for example, writing documentation, delivering project results on time, and presenting them to others.
	Good English language skills, both written and spoken, are required.
	A strong command of German is an asset.
	You are looking forward to new tasks, and you are willing to participate actively in scientific discourse and transformative teaching.

Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Sociology, to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will support the research and implementation of a longitudinal study of early childhood development in Hong Kong as well as the preparation of research proposals under the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences. Additionally, the appointee will contribute to the preparation of research proposals and contribute to other research projects of the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC: https://www.socsc.hku.hk/ssrc/people/) in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Key responsibilities include:


	Collecting, cleaning, and analysing research data under supervision, ensuring accuracy, quality and integrity throughout the process.
	Preparing comprehensive technical reports detailing research methods, findings, and implications.
	Developing manuscripts for submission to high-impact academic journals and presenting research findings at conferences and research institutions to disseminate results.
	Assisting in the development and drafting of research grant proposals to secure funding and support.
	Supervise and co-supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as junior research support staff.
	Performing any other research duties as assigned to support the success of projects.


Requirements

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or an equivalent qualification in sociology or a closely related social sciences discipline. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:


	Excellent written and spoken proficiency in both English and Chinese.
	Strong quantitative research skills within sociology or social sciences, demonstrated through relevant experience or coursework.
	Proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, R, or other relevant tools to facilitate data analysis and interpretation.
	Experience or interest in conducting research on topics related to child and youth development, family studies, education, and physical and psychological health disparities.
	Experience in data collection projects is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high attention to detail in study design, data collection, and data analysis, along with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Fundamental Theology is one of the areas of study and research of the Department for Systematic Theology and Ethics at the Faculty of Catholic Theology. The shared approach of Fundamental Theology in Vienna is to relate theology to contemporary societal challenges as well as to other academic disciplines, thereby contributing to the resolution of current socio-political issues. To this end, the Fundamental Theology department is actively involved in the multidisciplinary research center Religion and Transformation (RaT).

Particular focus is given to the question of God in the context of secular modernity, as well as questions of theology and philosophy of history, and aesthetics. As a university assistant (predoctoral), you will join the research team of the Department of Fundamental Theology and the research center Religion and Transformation (RaT).

What is particularly important to us:

An international outlook, an interdisciplinary approach, and strong connections with other Departments, particularly the Institute of German Studies and/or Philosophy and the research center RaT; an interest in the Department’s research priorities, and a profound understanding of Catholic systematic theology and philosophy, the Bible and its reception, as well as aesthetics and literature.

Your future tasks:

You will actively participate in teaching, research, and administration, which means:


	You will independently teach courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement.
	Supervising students and assisting with the supervision of academic qualification theses.
	You will contribute to the research at the Department of Fundamental Theology. Participating in research projects and in applications for third-party funding, contributing to publications and scholarly articles, and giving presentations will be a central part of your responsibilities.
