The Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent (START) Scheme is co-funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and SIT to encourage and support outstanding young Singaporeans interested in pursuing an academic career at SIT.

The Applied Research Fellowship aims to provide doctoral candidates who are about to complete or have recently completed their studies an opportunity to engage in advanced training and/or research at an overseas university for one year.

Besides financial support, awardees will also receive academic mentorship.

Upon completion of the Fellowship, awardees will be considered for Assistant Professorship.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria


	Singapore citizen
	Doctoral candidates who have recently completed or are about to complete their studies in a discipline under the supported areas for START below
	Excellent academic record plus a high degree of proficiency and motivation for selected research area
	Have been accepted or have applied for a postdoctoral training at a leading overseas university in a research area that is aligned with SIT’s supported areas
	A keen interest in an academic career


Value of Fellowship

The Fellowship provides:


	Monthly stipend
	Overseas maintenance allowance
	Return economy airfare
	Conference and fieldwork grants
	Overseas medical insurance


Fellows will also each be assigned a SIT faculty mentor throughout their post-doctoral training and have opportunities to participate in faculty development programmes.

The fellowship is tenable for one year. On an exception basis, a two-year programme may be supported.

Service Commitment

One year for every year of sponsorship.

Application Process


	Applications are open throughout the year via the various links below. Applications received before 15 January 2026 will be considered for the 2026 intake.
	Interview by the respective clusters for shortlisted applicants will be conducted throughout the year.
	Final Interview by the Panel for shortlisted applicants for the 2026 intake will commence in Mid-March to End April 2026.
	Awards will be finalised by July 2026.

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Wānanga Toi Tangata Division of Education invites applications for an exciting opportunity to lead our Master of Disability and Inclusion Studies. This role offers a unique chance to shape social change in the field of disability and inclusion through research and teaching across the breadth of our education programmes. We are particularly interested in applicants who can also contribute to special education within our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who brings both professional and academic experience, and who will become part of a team committed to excellence in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and further develop original scholarship and research, while also engaging in professional, community, and iwi service activities relevant to disability and inclusion.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, your well-defined programme of research will play a key role in advancing research capacity, fostering strategic cross- and inter-disciplinary research initiatives, and building meaningful community engagement. You will demonstrate a strong record of academic leadership, including mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and support for other academic staff as they pursue their academic objectives and grow their professional careers.

The level of appointment will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The salary range is $113,428 to $148,799 per year for a Senior Lecturer, or $150,661 to $166,176 per year for an Associate Professor. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), based at our Hamilton Campus.

The Opportunity

At Western Sydney University, our technical experts play a vital role in advancing research that helps us better understand our changing environment. As our Senior Engineering Technical Officer – FACE, you'll become the technical custodian of the internationally recognised EucFACE (Eucalypt Free Air CO₂ Enrichment) facility, ensuring the sophisticated engineering systems that support groundbreaking ecosystem research operate safely, reliably and continuously.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll maintain and optimise complex mechanical infrastructure, electronic sensor networks, pressure vessels, environmental monitoring equipment and automated data acquisition systems. Working across engineering, electronics and software, you'll develop and troubleshoot R and Python scripts, calibrate specialised instrumentation and solve technical challenges that directly support researchers conducting experiments in a unique outdoor laboratory.

Working alongside researchers, students and technical specialists, you'll be trusted as the engineering expert who keeps the facility performing at its best. You'll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support the delivery of high-quality research data and help ensure a safe, reliable environment for experiments that run throughout the year.

What Success Looks Like:


	Keeping the EucFACE facility operating safely, reliably and efficiently through proactive maintenance and technical problem-solving.
	Delivering accurate, quality-assured environmental data by maintaining sophisticated instrumentation, sensors and automated monitoring systems.
	Developing and maintaining R and Python scripts that improve automation, system performance and data quality.
	Building trusted relationships with researchers, students and collaborators by providing practical engineering expertise that enables successful field-based research.

About You

You'll enjoy solving complex technical problems, thrive in an outdoor engineering environment and take pride in maintaining systems that support world-class research.

You will bring:


	Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (or a related discipline) with postgraduate experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant professional experience.
	Experience maintaining complex engineering systems, scientific instrumentation, sensor networks or field-based technical infrastructure.
	Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic and programming principles, with experience using R, Python or similar programming languages.
	Excellent troubleshooting, planning and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
	A current driver's licence and the ability to work at heights, including holding (or being willing to obtain) Working at Heights, Scaffold and Crane Operator qualifications.

Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 537083), to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in medical sciences, public health, epidemiology, or other related disciplines, with at least two years of post-doctoral research experience. They should demonstrate strong competency in the analysis and interpretation of longitudinal observational data, and have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese. They should have a strong track record of managing and analyzing large-scale healthcare databases and/or electronic health records. Relevant experience in securing competitive research grants, as well as leading and coordinating large-scale research projects in non-communicable disease (NCD) epidemiology and/or health services evaluation, will be advantageous.

The appointee will lead a research team to conduct studies in health services research or pharmacoepidemiology. He/She will assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing research projects. Other responsibilities include preparing presentations, manuscripts, reports, and grant applications; supervising junior research staff; and performing any other relevant tasks as assigned.
