Aga Khan University was founded in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university. In 2000, the university began expanding its campuses to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan and the UK. Beginning as a health sciences university, Aga Khan University is among the largest healthcare providers in Pakistan and East Africa with their research influencing health policy and practice all over the world. The university has developed its programme offering to include teacher education, Muslim civilisations, journalism, early childhood development and public policy. There are over 20 student societies and clubs which include theatre, literary arts, surgery interest and the class representatives committee. On its Pakistan campuses, the university offers an abundance of facilities and resources to its students including an audio-visual and learning centre, clinical setting rooms for problem-based learning, as well as the Aga Khan University Hospital.

The role We are seeking an outstanding Research Fellow to help spearhead research to understand the relationship between EEG-defined oscillations during sleep and excessive sleepiness during the daytime in people living with Parkinson's and to develop and implement neuromodulation approaches to alleviate daytime sleepiness. The project is funded by Aligning Science Across Parkinson's and the William J. Fox Foundation, and will be conducted at the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey. The research is part of a collaborative effort between researchers at the Universities of Surrey, Oxford, Harvard and Zurich. The successful applicant will, together with other researchers and clinical staff members, be responsible for conducting the clinical research protocol, analyses of EEG and behavioural data, deliver neuromodulation interventions, and prepare publications. Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Neuroscience or related subject area, have experience in clinical neuroscience research and have excellent data analysis and programming skills. The successful applicant will be an active member of the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, and is expected to collaborate closely with researchers at Oxford, Harvard and Zurich About you Crucial skills include EEG analysis and programming. Desirable skills are prior experience of working with human participants patients, particularly those with dementia or other cognitive disorders, experience in assessing cognitive function using standardised and experimental tasks, conducting non-invasive brain stimulation and/or EEG recording procedures. Role & Responsibilities: The role acts primarily to proactively manage the University’s data and voice communications systems and deal with any associated support tickets, responding to alerts, including capacity and security issues identified by internal monitoring systems and external suppliers. The post holder will be expected to lead in the maintenance of our enterprise network systems and services, coordinating with colleagues and third parties in scheduling changes, and demonstrate independent thinking should an issue occur that falls outside the agreed process of the change. Responsibilities include: Take ownership of the proactive maintenance of large-scale network systems, coordinating and managing changes as required, identifying and actioning improvements to the service.  Configure network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.  Manage the case load of service incidents, works orders and standard change requests, always ensuring that requests are handled correctly and the service offering is to the highest standard. Where incidents have no published workaround, or standard changes are not applicable, find and document new workarounds and resolutions. Monitoring network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing the network. This nationally significant role will empower researchers to apply AI methods to tasks such as text and code generation, data analysis, and literature synthesis, while building critical awareness of their limitations and ethical implications. He/she will oversee R&D activities related to OLED emitters and devices, providing technical guidance and leadership to optimize device performance and efficiency, as well as developing prototypes for wearable devices. Additionally, the appointee will build and establish strategic relationships with industry partners, research institutes, manufacturers, and suppliers to leverage emerging technologies, industry trends, and collaborative opportunities.
