Beykoz University

Beykoz University is a private non-profit university in Istanbul that was established in 2016. It originated from the Beykoz Logistics Vocational School, which was started in 2008. Its programmes (20 at bachelor’s level and 29 at master’s) emphasise practical student-centred learning to create graduates who are ready to enter the workforce, particularly in the field of logistics, which remains a focus for the university. A number of courses are taught in English. The university has four faculties: business and management sciences; art and design; social sciences; and engineering and architecture. 
The university operates from several campuses in Istanbul. It has foreign exchange programmes and bilateral agreements (including the EU Erasmus+ and Mevlana exchange schemes) that allow students to study abroad for one or two semesters, as well as providing opportunities for internships, completion and joint degrees abroad. 
Beykoz has almost 40 partner universities in 16 countries.

To accelerate the translation of groundbreaking medical research into real-world applications, the Frontier Translational Medical Research Institute (TMRI) works to bring promising medical biotechnology discoveries from the laboratory to the public, focusing on translational research, product development, and eventually, commercialisation.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator or his/her delegate, the candidate will be responsible for scientific inputs, research and development, and project management, mainly stationed at the University’s research facility located at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks.

Responsibilities:

The appointee will perform the following duties:


	To involve in research and development for medical diagnostic product;
	To assist with planning and implementing experiment works;

Requirements:


	A bachelor’s degree or above from a recognised university in science or related field;
	Experience in molecular techniques (e.g. RT-PCR, real-time PCR) is a plus;

Role Description

We welcome applications from passionate, creative and motivated researchers to lead the delivery of innovative microbiology research exploring how biological processes move carbon into weathered rock and soil parent materials. 

About the Role

This is a Research Fellow role embedded within a major externally funded research programme in soil science. You will lead the delivery of a substantial component of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, delivering field, laboratory and experimental research to understand how microbial communities, epilithic organisms and plant roots contribute to organic carbon transport and transformation during soil formation. The role will involve designing and running experiments, coordinating field and laboratory activities in the UK and internationally, analysing and interpreting complex datasets, and publishing high-quality scientific outputs. Working closely with the research lead and wider project team, you will help deliver novel interdisciplinary research across soil microbiology, weathering processes and carbon cycling.

About You

You will be educated to doctoral level in soil microbiology, environmental microbiology, soil science, environmental science, biogeoscience or a related discipline, with experience of conducting independent research in laboratory and field settings. You will have expertise in microbiological or molecular approaches relevant to environmental samples, and be confident designing and delivering experiments, interpreting data and preparing work for publication. With strong organisational and problem-solving skills, you will be able to manage multiple research activities to deadline and work effectively both independently and as part of a wider interdisciplinary team. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to engage confidently with collaborators, students and external partners. Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally for fieldwork and collaboration is essential.

Your professional field of activity:

The Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic (KGRC), led by Univ.-Prof. Matthias Aschenbrenner, PhD, is part of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna. We are looking for a Senior Scientist to conduct research in model theory; to initiate an effort in computer-based formalization of foundational concepts and results in model theory, in particular, the theory of o-minimal structures and tame geometry.

To bolster your own agenda, you will be committed to acquiring third party funding for postdoctoral and doctoral positions. You will actively participate in the quality assurance of teaching materials created by the group. Moreover, you share the team’s view on the importance of a positive, inclusive, and respectful working environment, and will regularly exchange ideas about current topics and projects in group meetings and seminars. Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You have an excellent research profile in mathematical logic (model theory).
	You publish in peer-reviewed journals and give presentations at international meetings.
	You take the lead in the computer-based formalization of foundational results of model theory, in particular, the theory of o-minimal structures and tame geometry.
	You are in charge of the scientific coordination of third-party funded projects at the KGRC.

Required Qualifications/Position Requirement:


	A completed doctorate in mathematics, with a certificate of completion provided in due time before the start of the contract.
	A research profile in model theory, especially o-minimal structures.
	Outstanding expertise, proven through international publications in leading journals in the field and presentation experience in an international setting.
	Excellent abilities to work in a team.
	Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
	Supervision and experience in teaching of lectures in the area of model theory in both German and English.
	Proven ability to acquire competitive third-party funding is a strong additional asset.

We are seeking an enthusiastic anatomic pathologist to join a team of three faculty in a purpose-built Veterinary Pathology Centre. This role will enhance our 100 strong team of teaching and research staff in the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine.

The Veterinary Pathology Centre was built eight years ago and contains both a CL2 (containment level 2) post-mortem area with viewing gallery, and a CL3 post-mortem area. Private diagnostic post-mortems and APHA (Animal Plant Health Agency) surveillance post-mortems are undertaken at the site. 

The role would include undertaking diagnostic service, including biopsy and post-mortems, teaching final year (year 5) students on intramural rotations (IMR) post-mortem skills, and participating in lecturing, practical classes and assessment of year 1-4 undergraduates. Supervision of residents is also expected.

Providing CPD activities to external partners may also be required from time to time. 

You will have an interest in broadening your veterinary profile through the development and delivery of undergraduate teaching in veterinary pathology. You will be supported in achieving this by participation in our in-house, externally accredited Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. 

In addition to completing the Graduate Certificate, for those interested in developing further skills in education, study at Masters level (part-time) may also be supported (financially and in time allocation). There would also be opportunities for individuals to develop their career through research or other aspects as preferred. 

About you

Successful candidates must have a veterinary degree that is registerable with the RCVS, experience in surveillance and post-mortem services, and be interested in teaching and supervising students in the veterinary pathology aspects of our curriculum.

To be successful in this role, you will have excellent communication skills, an appetite for innovative teaching (which you will find is greatly enabled by our £11m purpose built state-of-the-art Veterinary Pathology Centre, existing teaching materials and technology enhanced learning facilities), strong organisational skills, and enjoy working in a team.

Qualifications in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology in ACVP, ECVP or FRCPath, or board eligibilty is also a requirement for the role.
