Chang鈥檃n University was formed in 2000 by the merger by the Xi鈥檃n Highway University, the Xi鈥檃n Engineering Institute and the Northwest Institute of Construction Engineering.聽
It is particularly strong in the fields of highway transport, land resources and environment, and construction engineering. The highway programme is among the country鈥檚 best, and Chang鈥檃n is China鈥檚 only university with a high-speed automobile testing facility. The university also houses a research institute focused on the development of intelligent oilfield technology.聽
In addition to its expertise in engineering, Chang鈥檃n offers programmes in science, economics, management and the humanities across its two campuses.
At present, the university has about 40,000 students, of whom about a quarter are postgraduates. There are more than 1,600 international students from about 100 countries.聽
The number of full-time teaching staff is over 2,000.聽
Chang鈥檃n has exchanges and collaborations with more than 100 international universities and research institutions, in countries including the US, the UK, Japan and South Korea.
Xi鈥檃n is the capital of Shaanxi province in north-west China. Known as Chang鈥檃n for much of its history, Xi鈥檃n is one of China鈥檚 four great ancient capitals. It is the home of the world-famous Terracotta Warriors.聽
