About Claflin University

Claflin University is a Methodist affiliated and historically black university situated in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The institution was founded in 1869 by missionaries from northern states, in order to educate recently freed slaves and their children. In the modern era Claflin offers both undergraduate and graduate courses, and is regarded as one of the premier liberal arts colleges in the state. The university is named for Massachusetts Governor William Claflin and his philanthropist father Lee.

Thirty-six majors and twenty-four minors comprise the undergraduate study programme, in the Schools of Business Administration, Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Claflin also offers a Masters of business administration degree as an online programme.

The James S. Thomas Science Centre host mathematics classrooms, biology and chemistry based laboratories, as well as a greenhouse on the building鈥檚 roof. Since 1999 the Centre for Excellence in Teaching has been functioning at Claflin, ensuring the continuing proficiency and strong reputation of all teaching and resources at the university.

Four men鈥檚 and six women鈥檚 teams compete in varsity sports for Claflin under the 鈥楶anthers鈥 team name. Teams play as part of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and in 2015 the women's volleyball聽side was first in Claflin鈥檚 in history to win a Championship in the division.

Civil rights activist Gloria Blackwell, and actor E. Roger Mitchell are both alumni of Claflin. Hip-hop artist Danny! was expelled after being accused of grade fixing, and his experiences would influence his debut album聽College Kid.

The official colours of Claflin are orange and maroon, and its motto is 鈥榯he world needs visionaries鈥. There are ten residence halls on campus, which are divided by gender.

As an Upskilling Project Officer, you will provide operational project management support to deliver a national program focused on embedding eating disorder training, identification, and early intervention within Australia's mental health service system. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will coordinate project activities, maintain project documentation and reporting, support stakeholder engagement, and help ensure project deliverables are achieved on time and to a high standard. Facilitate project logistics, including scheduling meetings, training activities, workshops, and events, while coordinating stakeholders and venue arrangements. Research Fellow in Phanerozoic Ocean Biogeochemistry and Earth System Evolution

The School of Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow in Phanerozoic Ocean Biogeochemistry and Earth System Evolution. The successful applicant will work on the development and application of the cGENIE Earth system model for the NERC Pushing the Frontiers project 鈥淒etermining extinction correlates on geological timescales鈥, under the supervision of institutional lead Dr. Richard Stockey and in collaboration with team members at the University of Oxford (Project Lead Prof. Erin Saupe) and the University of Leeds (Project Co-Lead Prof. Ben Mills). The post holder will specifically work to generate a series of reconstructive models of 3D ocean biogeochemistry through the Phanerozoic (last ~540 million years). A key focus of this role is to explore uncertainty in three-dimensional ocean biogeochemistry over this time interval and its implications for geochemical proxy records and marine ecosystems. This is a relatively short-term, specialist Earth system modelling position (15-month duration). The post holder is therefore expected to have prior experience in intermediate complexity Earth system modelling and experience integrating key components of Earth system evolution on these timescales, or a strong track record in developing and deploying new skills in computational Earth Science research. The successful candidate will either hold, or be nearing completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil and will have appropriate research experience alongside strong subject-specific expertise. They should be capable of working independently within established research programmes, managing their own research activities and contributing to academic publications. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to present research ideas and findings clearly, as well as representing the research group effectively in meetings and collaborative discussions.
