The role An exciting opportunity for a Technical and Administrative Assistant in the School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (part time 0.5 FTE, fixed term contract upto 5 months). The Administrative Assistant will support daily laboratory, workshop, or technical operations by preparing equipment, assisting with routine tests, and maintaining safe, organised workspaces. They will provide reliable organisational and clerical support to ensure smooth day to day operations. The role involves managing communications, coordinating schedules, maintaining records, and supporting staff with administrative tasks. The postholder will act as a first point of contact for enquiries and help keep workflows efficient and well organised. The role also includes data recording, basic analysis, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures. The organisation and delivery of University Open Days for Undergraduate and Postgraduate prospective students is an essential component to recruit high quality students and showcase what the University of Southampton has to offer. The Student Recruitment, Marketing and Events Department is looking to recruit an events expert, with experience of large-scale event delivery to organise this key activity as a maternity cover. Ideally the post holder will have an understanding of the education sector, but this isn’t essential. A proven record of complex event management with multiple stakeholders will be required as well as a passion for the sector to deliver what is expected from our prospective students. The role will manage a small team to organise the Open Days but will be supported by the wider team during event delivery and is expected to support other in person and virtual events delivered within the Student Recruitment Event Team.
