Major duties include conducting advanced data analysis and preparing manuscripts for the projects. He/She will also be expected to work independently on project management, proposal preparation, and mentoring of junior research staff.

The positions may be filled as associate professor or professor, depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage.

Associate professor

An appointee to the position of associate professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for associate professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means.��The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline.

When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience.

Professor

An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that this person represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline.

When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits , if��necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant’s ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. The requirement for a supervised dissertation must be met by the end of the application deadline.

Duties

The University of Helsinki has national responsibility for Swedish-language education in��medicine. The associate/ professor is responsible for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in pathology as well as participating in other basic education and specialist training in the field. The associate/ professor will provide teaching in the Degree Programme in Medicine, including practical small group and lecture-based teaching. The duties of the position include carrying out and supervising scientific research and, consequently, following scientific developments as well as participating in public engagement and Finnish and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the appointee has other duties related to the responsibilities of the Faculty.

The practical experience required for the position can be demonstrated with an applicable��specialist’s degree or license in the field (pathology).

The appointee and HUS Helsinki University Hospital may negotiate a suitable secondary position.

Trial period of six months will be applied.

Requirements for language skills

According to the Government Decree on Universities, holders of teaching and research positions must be proficient in the language of instruction. The language of instruction is Swedish. In addition, the appointee must have at least satisfactory oral and written skills in Finnish. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must also have good English skills.

When the language of instruction is Swedish the language proficiency recommended for��successfully attending to the duties of the position corresponds with level C2 of the��Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Role

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to pursue experimental research in the field of atomic and laser physics within the Durham Quantum Light and Matter group. The position is associated with a project funded by the EURAMET - the metrology component of the European Union Horizon 2020 Programme.

The post holder will be expected to display the initiative and creativity, together with the appropriate skills and knowledge, required to lead and develop experiments to meet the project goals. The post holder will be expected to be familiar with narrowband and tunable scientific lasers, and have experience in atomic physics, quantum optics or laser cooling and trapping. The post holder is expected to be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a small research team. It is expected that the post holder will enhance the international contacts of the group through the presentation of work at international conferences. The post holder will also be expected to aid in the supervision of graduate students within the group as well as contributing to the undergraduate teaching within the Department.

The aim is to explore the use of reconfigurable arrays of trapped ultra-cold atoms in next generation optical atomic clocks.This post is part of the CoCoRiCo consortium, which consists of 4 National Metrology Institutes and 5 university research groups from across Europe. Your role will be to contribute to the development new techniques for trapping and manipulating atoms, as well as studies of systematic errors in tweezer array atomic clocks.

The successful candidate will be required to take a lead role in all aspects of the project, contributing directly to the experiment and working closely with Prof Matthew Jones, collaborators within the CoCoRiCo consortium and outside, as well as graduate students and other members of the research group. You will be expected to undertake an active role in the laboratory activity.

This post is for a fixed term of eight months to coincide with funding to support the project.

The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.
