Founded in 1871, UW Oshkosh is a public institution and the third largest higher learning institute in Wisconsin, enrolling over 12,000 undergraduate students. The city itself is located on lake Winnebago, and is around a two hour drive to Milwaukee.

Academic study at UW Oshkosh is divided between the four colleges of Business, Education & Human Services, Letters & Science, and Nursing. In the graduate school UW Oshkosh offers more than thirty master鈥檚 programmes and a doctoral courses in Nursing Practice and Educational Leadership.

UW Oshkosh has an active study abroad programme, and students can take semesters in locations such as Peru, Spain, and Costa Rica, and an innovative Animal Behaviour Research in Tanzania. The Department of Professional Counselling also offers an annual course in counselling and spirituality abroad, previous expeditions being to India and Malaysia.

For students seeking assistance and support on campus, UW Oshkosh has a Women鈥檚 Centre, LGBTQ Resource Centre, and a Student Health Centre.

Athletics teams are known as the Titans, and compete in the NCAA Division III. There are seven men鈥檚 sports programmes and ten women鈥檚, including tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Part of the Oshkosh Sports Complex,聽Titan Stadium聽hosts football, soccer, and track and field competition, and can seat up to 9,800 spectators.

Notable alumni include sculptor Helen Mears, computer programmer Brian Paul, United States Assistant Secretary of War George de Rue Meiklejohn, and college football Hall of Famer Marty Below.

Three UW Oshkosh campus buildings dating to the late 19th and early 20th century have been placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places; the Oshkosh State Normal School Historic District, Oviatt House, and the Pollock Residence.

We are a聽dynamic, growing team of bioinformaticians and data scientists at CEITEC, building the European infrastructure for secure, federated analysis of sensitive genomic and health data 鈥 and we are looking for a Senior聽Researcher聽/ Staff Scientist in Federated Genomic Data Infrastructure About this position The Bioinformatics Core Facility at CEITEC works on the infrastructure for storing, sharing, and 鈥 above all 鈥 performing federated analysis on sensitive genomic and other omics data across Europe. Through the ELIXIR research infrastructure and initiatives such as the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI), the 1+Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative, and Genome of Europe, we are one of the major players in this field in Europe. This is highly collaborative, distributed work. Much of it does not happen within a聽single lab but across a聽network of partners 鈥 institutional IT teams, national infrastructure bodies, and collaborators across Europe 鈥 and our role is to coordinate and integrate these efforts, keeping them moving. A聽growing and increasingly important part of the work is enabling AI, and in particular agentic AI systems, to operate safely on sensitive data within this distributed infrastructure, in service of translational and clinical research and the wider handling of sensitive healthcare data. We are looking for a聽senior, independent researcher / staff scientist to take a聽leading technical role across these projects 鈥 someone who can drive their own work, coordinate and mentor more junior colleagues, and act as a聽confident point of contact with our partners. This is a聽highly visible, Europe-wide role at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and the life sciences, and it is fundamentally about handling a聽complex, multi-party effort rather than working in isolation. Your profile Must-have: A PhD (or equivalent experience). We have no hard requirement on the specific field, provided it falls within the range from bioinformatics through to computer science and IT/software development, or a聽closely related technical area Solid, hands-on experience spanning bioinformatics analysis and workflows, bioinformatics infrastructure and software for data analysis, and/or broader IT and software development, in a聽rapidly evolving environment where AI is becoming inherent to everything we do; experience with omics and multi-omics data is a聽strong plus.
