Walsh University is a private, Catholic institution in North Canton, Ohio which specialises in liberal arts and sciences.
The university was founded in 1960 by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, and is named after Bishop Emmet M. Walsh of the Youngstown Roman Catholic Diocese. Established in 1819, the Brothers of Christian Instruction have also founded schools in countries like Canada, Japan, Uganda and the UK.
Psychology, education, biological & biomedical sciences, marketing and business are among the courses with the most students on, but it runs more than 50 in total, including several for postgraduates.
The university has three satellite campuses in the state, in the fellow north west Ohio cities of Medina, Akron and Canfield, which also run a number of accelerated degree programmes. It also has a campus in Castel Gandolfo, 15 miles south east of the Italian capital of Rome, where Walsh students can gain credits during a range of visits which run each semester. 50 miles south of Cleveland, the state鈥檚 largest city, and Lake Erie, Walsh鈥檚 main campus is 90 miles north west of Pittsburgh, nicknamed the Steel City due to its past as the world鈥檚 biggest producer of the metal, on the other side of the Pennsylvanian border.
Visitors to Walsh over the years have included Mother Teresa and Willy Brandt, while Brian Rogers, a professional mixed martial arts fighter, is among the university鈥檚 alumni.
