Position overview

The University of Canterbury (UC) invites applications for a continuing (permanent) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on mechatronics engineering. This is an opportunity to contribute to UC's growing impact on the national and international mechatronics and technology sector, supported by strong research infrastructure and a collaborative departmental environment.

While the position is housed within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the successful applicant will operate within the Mechatronics Engineering programme, delivered jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and across the wider Faculty of Engineering. Mechatronics at UC is inherently interdisciplinary, and the appointee will be expected to collaborate with existing staff and contribute to initiatives within this rapidly advancing field.

Key responsibilities


	Work with and grow research in the mechatronics systems field within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
	Contribute to the undergraduate (BE(Hons)) mechatronics and mechanical engineering programmes by teaching design, dynamics, and control-related courses, using project-based teaching methods where appropriate.
	Cultivate strong partnerships with industry, public research organisations, and other relevant national and international stakeholders.
	Mentor and guide students, fostering the development of future professionals in the mechatronics and technology industries.


Mōu - Who you are

We are looking for a passionate person who can contribute to the department's growth and UC's vision of being a leader in engineering research and education.

The successful applicant will have a strong research record in sensors, robotics, and automation, with a focus on primary sector applications such as agricultural technology and precision farming. Sound research experience in other compatible areas of mechatronics will also be carefully considered, including biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, soft robotics, autonomous/unmanned systems, and sensor networks.

Preference will be given to those with industry experience. We are seeking someone with either a strong and credible pathway to developing an extensive industry network, or an established network of industry partners that can be further developed.

We are looking for enthusiasm for student learning and a positive attitude towards developing effective teaching methods. Previous teaching experience is preferred, including experience coordinating larger classes. A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusivity, including supporting the success of women and underrepresented groups in STEM, is essential. We also welcome an open-minded viewpoint and a genuine commitment to embracing the University's dedication to Aotearoa New Zealand's bicultural heritage and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD in Engineering or a related field, although we will also consider those yet to graduate from their doctoral studies. We welcome applications across the Lecturer to Senior Lecturer academic levels, with skills and experience assessed against the expectations for each rank below.

At Lecturer rank you will have:


	An emerging research programme, with initial publications in relevant journals/conferences and a clear plan for building a research trajectory.
	Willingness and capacity to contribute to funded research and industry-linked projects, typically as part of a team rather than in a leading role.
	Sound, developing teaching ability across undergraduate mechatronics/mechanical engineering courses.
	Supervision of Honours projects and developing Masters/PhD supervision capability through co-supervision.
	Participation in departmental service and student engagement activities, with a willingness to contribute to degree programme development as required.


At Senior Lecturer rank you will have:


	An active and developing research programme with a growing publication record and emerging national profile.
	Ability to contribute to externally funded research and industry-linked projects.
	High-quality teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate mechatronics/mechanical engineering.
	Supervision of Honours/Masters students and developing PhD supervision capability.

About the Role

Swinburne University of Technology is seeking an exceptional academic leader to join us as an Associate Dean, Innovation and Engagement (I&E). This is a unique opportunity to be a key member of the School Executive team and provide senior academic leadership to activate Swinburne’s entrepreneurial ecosystem across teaching, research, innovation and engagement.

As the Associate Dean I&E, you will be responsible for embedding enterprise capability and industry collaboration across the School and in turn, the Academic portfolio through learner-powered industry innovation and experience, including the systematic integration of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) within curriculum design, delivery models, and assessment. This ensures that industry engagement, WIL, and innovation are coherently designed and delivered as part of the learning experience, resulting in high-quality industry-connected education, future-ready graduates, and demonstrable impact.

As a member of the School’s senior leadership team, you will lead enterprise-driven learning and innovation initiatives across domestic and global contexts. This includes engaging and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver learner powered industry innovation, strategy, and working in collaboration with other Associate Deans to integrate industry-connected curriculum and pedagogy, enabling innovation outcomes and industry-linked learning models, and advancing the commercialisation of research, industry-focused educational products, and student and staff ventures to create impact at scale and support sustainable growth. 

This position stewards entrepreneurship, commercialisation and industry-connected innovation across all sectors and cohorts, positioning Swinburne as a global leader in entrepreneurial education, industry-engaged learning, and commercial impact. You will champion innovation and engagement in the School in support of the University’s strategic plan - Ad Astra, and play a major role in activating School academics to participate and lead I&E activities.

Qualifications

As part of its strategic development, FBA is conducting a global recruitment of Associate/Assistant Professor in Business Intelligence and Analytics (Information Systems). Remuneration

About the Role

Are you passionate about developing the next generation of health leaders? Join Swinburne University of Technology as we launch an exciting new Health Service Management major within our Bachelor of Health Sciences.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in establishing and growing an innovative discipline that prepares graduates for future-focused careers across Australia's evolving healthcare sector. You'll combine your expertise in teaching, research and industry engagement to help shape curriculum, inspire students and drive meaningful research with real-world impact.

As a Senior Lecturer, you'll work collaboratively with the Course Director, Department Chair and academic colleagues to play a key role in delivering and advancing the Health Service Management major within the Bachelor of Health Sciences and related programs. This role will:


	Lead and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across face-to-face and online environments. 
	Drive curriculum innovation and contribute to the ongoing development of the new Health Service Management major. 
	Build a high-quality research program aligned with the School's strategic priorities. 
	Supervise Higher Degree by Research students and mentor emerging researchers. 
	Strengthen partnerships with industry, government and the broader health sector. 
	Contribute to academic leadership, program coordination and the ongoing success of the Department.

About You

We're looking for an experienced academic who combines teaching excellence with a strong research profile and a passion for improving health systems. You’ll bring: 


	Demonstrated expertise in Health Service Management, health systems, or a closely related discipline. 
	Experience designing and delivering high-quality university teaching and innovative curriculum. 
	A strong track record of research excellence, including high-quality publications and successful competitive grant funding. 
	Experience supervising postgraduate research students. 
	Well-established industry and professional networks within the Australian health sector.
	Outstanding communication, collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. 
	A commitment to creating inclusive learning environments and fostering student success.

Qualifications

A doctoral qualification in an area of Health Service Management, Public Health, or related disciplines. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in Health Service Management.
Additionally, a teaching qualification would be highly desirable.
